Wild Agadir & Beyond: 5-Day Birding & Nature Guide

Wild Agadir & Beyond: 5-Day Birding & Nature Guide

5 days•Start: Agadir

Route Map

Overview

This 5 day nature adventure Morocco route mixes comfort with genuinely wild moments. You'll pass through Oued Massa, Paradise Valley, and the desert plains near Guelmim over five days, moving from Atlantic coastline to mountain valleys to open Sahara terrain in a single trip. If you'd like a closer look at the region before diving into the full route, our Agadir tours & Paradise Valley trips page covers nearby day options too. For travelers who enjoy this kind of slower-paced Morocco nature adventure, the mix of coast, valley, and desert in one trip is hard to match. Some travelers on this route are lifelong birders with a checklist in hand. Others just want to get outside and see something they won't find on a normal Morocco holiday.

Day 1: Agadir – Cap Rhir – Tamri Estuary – Agadir

We start with pickup at your Agadir hotel, or straight from the airport if that's easier. Arriving a day early? We can sort accommodation for the night before too, so you're not scrambling on arrival. From Agadir, we drive up the coast, stopping first at a beach known for gulls, Lesser Black-backed, Audouin's, and Yellow-legged among them, often seen resting on the rocks just past the tideline. Next stop is Tamri Estuary. This wetland matters because it shelters one of the rarest birds alive, the Northern Bald Ibis, a species that nearly vanished entirely a few decades ago. Seeing one up close, in the wild, tends to be the moment people remember most from the whole trip. Bring binoculars if you have them; the birds often feed close enough to the water's edge that even a basic pair works well. We head back to Agadir for dinner and an overnight stay.

Agadir

Day 2: Agadir to Oued Massa – Oued Souss – Agadir

Breakfast, then out to two of the best birding spots on the coast. Oued Massa first, where we watch for the Black-crowned Tchagra (shy, easy to miss if you're not looking closely), the endangered Moroccan Cormorant, and Moussier's Redstart with its sharp coloring standing out against the scrubland. Marbled Duck, Stone Curlew, Laughing Dove, and Brown-throated Martin also show up here regularly, especially in the early morning hours when the light is softer and the birds are more active. From there we move to Oued Souss, reliable for Flamingos and a good mix of shorebirds, gulls, and terns at roost along the estuary banks. This leg of the 5 day wildlife tour Morocco route is where a lot of repeat guests say the birding really picks up. Back to Agadir for dinner.

Oued Massa

Day 3: Agadir – Paradise Valley & Immouzer – Agadir

Today we head northeast into Paradise Valley and Immouzer, an area shaped by steep rock and running water, with natural pools tucked between the cliffs. Watch the cliffs for Blue Rock Thrush, Crag Martin, and Black Wheatear, all of which favor the exposed rock faces. Bonelli's Eagle is often overhead, circling on the thermals rising off the valley floor. Lower down, look for Barbary Partridge, Black Redstart, and Little Swift darting between the palm groves. If the landscape here interests you beyond the birds, this is also a good moment to explore more of Morocco's diverse destinations nearby. We're back in Agadir by late afternoon for dinner and rest.

Immouzer

Day 4: Guelmim – Southern Desert in Morocco

Today's drive takes us to Guelmim, sometimes called the Gateway to the Sahara. We start in the Anti-Atlas Mountains looking for Rock Bunting, then push into the desert itself as the terrain opens up and the air turns noticeably drier. This is Fulvous Babbler territory, along with White-crowned Wheatear and Spanish Sparrow, often spotted near the Prickly Pears that dot the landscape. Red-rumped Wheatear takes more patience to find, usually spotted low to the ground near rocky outcrops. Thick-billed and Bar-tailed Larks turn up on the rocky ground nearby, blending in well enough that a trained eye helps. Days like this are why we call it a 5 day wildlife tour Morocco trip and not just a sightseeing loop. Dinner and overnight in Guelmim.

Guelmim

Day 5: Guelmim – Agadir

After breakfast we take the Tan-Tan road back, known for its own set of desert specialists. Open farmland gives us Cream-colored Courser, Greater Hoopoe-Lark, and Long-legged Buzzard, plus both the Greater and Lesser Short-toed Larks feeding along the field edges. Once the ground turns stony, we shift focus to Scrub Warbler, Spectacled Warbler, Bar-tailed Lark, and the harder-to-spot Temminck's Lark. Lunch at an oasis, then a search for Trumpeter Finch before heading back toward Agadir. By the time this 5 day nature adventure Morocco trip wraps up, you'll have had five full days of birding most people only read about. The evening's free, dinner included, time to unwind.
